Accepting 2012 Scholarship Application now

The Education Foundation of Bloomington welcomes applicants for Senior Scholarships.  Students at Thomas Jefferson High School and John F. Kennedy High School who will graduate in the Class of 2012 are eligible for consideration. Applications are available online or from high school counselors. 2011 Scholarship Recipients

The Education Foundation of Bloomington awarded $42,200 in Senior Scholarships during Jefferson and Kennedy high schools academic honors events for the Class of 2011.

Senior Scholarships“Our Foundation’s scholarships recognize strong academic records, school activities, community service and future potential,” said Karyn Arazi, foundation president. “Bloomington’s well-qualified scholarship applicants make our selection process very challenging,” she said. “These generous scholarships are evidence that this community, its businesses and our school staff stand behind our graduates with their financial support and high expectations.”

Jefferson senior Saeram Oh and Kennedy’s Bakhtawar Chaudhary were awarded the $2,500 Thomas Burnett, Jr., Memorial Scholarships sponsored by Mall of America. Receiving $1,000 Mall of America Scholarships were Kennedy seniors Josh Colbert, Garbrielle Dabu, Bridget Gorshe, Melissa Hansen and Austin Nordby.  Jefferson recipients of the $1,000 scholarships were Taylor Crow, Katie Lindahl, Josephine Nguyen, Alyssa Solberg and Riley Petersen. 

Recipients of the $1,000 Patrick Porter Scholarships at Kennedy were Nhat Duog, Sean Dutcher and  Michelle Hernandez along with Jefferson’s Brittany Williams.

Four Donaldson $1,000 Company Foundation Scholarships were awarded to Anna Wickstrom and Zach Fremder of Kennedy and to Jefferson’s Terrence Au and Kaitlyn Daggett.

Bloomington Federation of Teachers $1,400 Scholarships were awarded to Kennedy’s Jacob Hodgson and Jefferson senior Anna Koester. The Kay Walker Memorial Scholarship, honoring the former School Board member, was awarded to Molly Wiebel, Kennedy senior.

The $1,000 Dorothy Ziebell Scholarships, an annual donation by the long-time Kennedy home economics teacher, were awarded to Kennedy seniors Victoria Dubose-Briski and Parker Field. Receiving the Foundation’s $1,000 Charlotte Lehman Memorial Scholarship, which honors Bloomington’s first woman principal, was Kennedy senior Brendan Broderick.

The Bloomington PTSA Council’s $1,350 scholarships were presented to Justin Sengly of Kennedy, and Jefferson senior Emily Werdal. Receiving the Bloomington School Food Service Association’s $600 scholarships were Jefferson’s Aaron Larkin and Sophia Konewko, Kennedy. Jefferson senior Cody Lundeen received the $500 Gregory J. Lampe Memorial Scholarship.  Receiving the Bloomington Retired Educations Association Scholarship for $1,000 was Aimee Mellenbruch of Kennedy.

The $1,000 Education Foundation of Bloomington Scholarships were awarded to Jefferson seniors Laura Castagna, Alexandra Clark, Darren Kessel-Baker and David Mortensen. Kennedy’s Shamara Duwearatchi, Meghan Janssen and Daniel Ly also received $1,000 Education Foundation of Bloomington Scholarships.
