The Education Foundation of
Bloomington‘s purpose is to help meet educational needs of students of
the Bloomington Public Schools. Since 1986, the Foundation has supported:
Education Innovation Grants that enable teachers to explore
creative ways to meet their students’ needs.
Student Success Stipends to help ensure
that all students can participate in learning experiences that require
fees.
Post-Secondary Scholarships that help
ensure that Bloomington graduates can afford their first year of
post-high school education or training.
Food for Thought provides
free school meals for students whose families can't always afford to pay
even though their income is not low enough to qualify for federally
funded free and reduced-price meals.
Prodigy Awards to
recognize staff who work effectively in teams to achieve their assigned
goals.

| Four-year-old Nicholas Glad and his Early Childhood Special Education
classmates benefit from a $1,600 Innovation Grant from the Education
Foundation of Bloomington. The grant provided assistive technology
including buttons” that are programmed to help students with
disabilities communicate. When Nicholas pushes the button strapped to
his leg, the computer turns the page in the storybook displayed on the
screen. Other buttons in the Southwood Center classroom enable children
to say whether they want food or a drink during smack time or otherwise
communicate with staff. |
