The Education Foundation of Bloomington was started in 1986 when a group of committed and concerned citizens decided to form an organization that would support quality education in Bloomington. Funding for public education has always been a challenge but became especially critical in the mid 1980's when state budgets were feeling the effects of economic issues.
Many communities were being faced with cutting significant programs from their education budgets, including Bloomington. To help ease the sting of those budget cuts the Education Foundation of Bloomington hoped to raise funding through community donations which would be applied to programs developed to support students and staff.
Since those early days the EFB has raised well over one million dollars through teacher payroll donations, generous donations and endowments from residents and friends of Bloomington and through charity events and community appeals.
2011 is our 25th Anniversary Year and we are committed to serving our education community for many more years to come!
